GST State Codes - All States & UTs
The first two digits of a GSTIN (GST Identification Number) represent the state code. Use this table to identify the state from a GSTIN or to verify GST registrations.
GSTIN format: [2-digit state code] + [10-digit PAN] + [1-digit entity number] + [1 letter Z] + [1-digit checksum]. Example: 29AABCT1332L1ZV - state code 29 = Karnataka.

Historical codes: code 28 (undivided Andhra Pradesh) was superseded by 37 (Andhra Pradesh) after the 2014 Telangana bifurcation, and code 25 (Daman & Diu) was merged into 26 (Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu) in 2020. Old GSTINs registered under 28 or 25 remain valid historical records, but new registrations use only the current codes listed above.
